[PIC] Season 3, Episode 9: Vox
Rating: –
All has been revealed, with only the final conflict left to resolve. I get that the Federation’s decision making processes have been compromised by the enemy, but still, the idea that the *entire fleet* of the federation would go to one location is outrageously stupid and nakedly pure nonsense set up. How would that be remotely logistically possible, let alone that seemingly no one would be like “this seems like a very dumb thing to do.” None of our heroes even thought it was kinda weird before they learned of the conspiracy. Frontier Day, why not, lets all look at space fireworks it’ll be fun!!
Ok ok on to more pressing things. The show has been building up to the reveal of what Jack really is for almost the whole season, a move you do when you’re fairly confident you’ve got a good hand to play. I think the reason the show is so confident is because of how intricately they constructed all the threads and teases, which they go to lengths to explain in this episode. But it’s all just for the Borg to show up again, an enemy we’ve seen over and over and over despite their central interesting hive mind concept not really being present for like 30 years. Like with the Changelings, the show has evolved the abilities of the Borg, this time shifting their zombie powers into a mind virus type thing. It’s not much of an idea, but it does allow them to up the stakes to an insane level for the finale. That’s where the stupid Frontier Day plays its role. It’s completely unbelievable, but maybe still a better end goal than we’ve seen on Picard so far if only because it’s scary to think of the entire fleet assimilated? We’ll see how our heroes win the day, I’m sure it’ll be just as plausible as the problem they face.
On a similarly ridiculous but more positive note, the real twist of the episode is that the show set aside its Enterprise D slander and movie love and pandered to us by getting the crew together on the ol bridge of the D. It’s dumb and I’m happy about it. Why not at this point! My only remaining question is do we get to see Picard’s ready room. what about engineering. how many sets did they rebuild I want to see them all!!
