[PIC] Season 3, Episode 8: Surrender
Rating: –
Second episode in a row where the overall plot doesn’t progress in any meaningful way. In fact, some of the plot threads are the same as last episode! Even the cliffhanger is essentially the exact same as it was in Dominion – What’s Jack? But hey, the crew is together, they sit at a table just like the good ol days. Vadic is probably dead, which basically confirms she was just around to stall proceedings rather than be a character, which lines up with all her totally pointless speeches. Does this mean another (probably familiar) villain will turn up for the very end? Anyway seems like Frontier Day has been a couple days away for a few months now.

Notes:
Even though only a minute ago (last episode) Data overcame Lore to take back control of the systems, now Geordi unplugs him and says “Enough is enough. Lore can’t control what he can’t access.” Are we just re-doing the last episode’s Data/Lore plot?
Riker says that Picard probably has everything under control and set up one of his classic traps. Then it cuts to the Titan totally under changeling control. Why are the writers always trying to make Picard look dumb
Vadic warns Jack that if he doesn’t turn himself over she will execute someone at the end of Act 1, establishing the stakes.
Jack thinks he can mind control his way out of this.
Like essentially every single thing our heroes try in Picard, this plan totally fails.
Riker and Troi mock how the season 1 writers put them out living in the woods.
But Worf comes and saves us!
This time the Data/Lore plot has the classic accompanying white-scape mind-realm
Jack turns himself in and brings a lil ball
The only way Data can (secretly) defeat Lore is to list things we remember from TNG. The writers actually show incredible restraint from what I would have expected.
All the bridge prisoners are released except Seven, who decides to stay. We later learn that this is for no other reason than for Seven to say, in Janeway-fashion, “Get off my bridge.” See now there’s the lack of restraint I watch the show for
Spot! and he’s male again. I guess that whole pregnancy thing was just a misunderstanding
Once again lots of scenes where literally nothing happens except for Vadic taunting the audience because they don’t want to tell us what Jack is yet.
“We are me.”
Vadic gets sent out into space and breaks apart
Raffi says “Hey boys”
Best buds
Oh you know TNG theme is about to roll
OK now they’ll definitely tell us what Jack is they promise they really will do it and it’ll be worth the wait!
