[PIC] Season 3, Episode 2: Disengage
Rating: –
“Disengage” is pretty decompressed, so there’s a lot of just kinda waiting for the thing to happen you know will happen, or waiting for a reveal to see which direction they go in. Not a lot of commitment or interest on a scene-by-scene basis. The directionless misery and cynicism that has plagued the series resurfaces in a bigger way this episode as well – probably the most perplexing component to the show overall.
In true movie fashion, they are returning to the big bad villain well, but it’s nice that they at least got Plummer to ham it up in style, she’s the highlight of the episode. Captain Shaw has begun his arc towards being less horrible, so that’s also nice to see, even if he’s still pretty horrible. I can’t help but compare him to the much better written Jellico, so that probably isn’t helping either.
I guess we should talk more about Jack Crusher, but we’ll unfortunately have time to do that in subsequent episodes, I suspect.
