[TNG] Season 5, Episode 10: New Ground
Rating: 2
This episode is fairly well executed. Troi gets to be a proper counselor, which is nice. The sci-fi B-plot is a little dull but has an appropriate day-in-the-life quality before some needlessly high stakes are introduced near the end. The main story about Worf having to come to terms with the reality of Alexander being around is fine, it’s just not quite a story we could ever care too much about. It doesn’t help that Alexander is such a lame kid, but overall it feels like something is missing from this set up. Klingon culture doesn’t seem to be a part of this story as much as it should – there’s some talk that Klingon kids are different from human ones, and need to be raised in different ways, but it would’ve been nice if that was actually evident in the story.
