[TNG] Season 4, Episode 17: Night Terrors
Rating: 2
This episode isn’t all that bad, but it could be a little slow for someone new to Star Trek. There are some silly bits, the worst of which is probably the awful effect of Troi floating through her dreams and yelling at a light. There is, however, a nice sense of unease through out the episode, and at least one particularly creepy event with Crusher.

Notes:

Enterprise becomes trapped too. Then weird things start happening! Picard hears his doorbell over and over again, but no one is there! …until there is

Crusher says all the spooky visions are because no one is dreaming and humans need to get to REM or else they’ll totally lose it!

Some of the cranky dream-deprived crew are flirting with mutiny! Somehow this seems a little extreme?

Speaking of extreme, Worf tries to kill himself because he feels fear. Troi stops him though, don’t worry.

I kept thinking that this guy was just going to slowly start muttering more useful things, but he never does. Troi just figures out that they’re having the same dream.

Troi says someone is trying to communicate with them but the frequencies are only right for betazoids. It just kills everyone else. Whoops!

Troi and Data figure out that the unseen aliens want to collaborate to make an explosion which would free their ship and the Enterprise at the same time. The way they figure out the message and what the aliens want them to do is pretty clever.

Things get rowdy but Guinan settles people down with the big rifle she keeps behind the bar, old west style.

Then everyone can finally get some sleep. I wish more episodes ended with everyone just going to bed.
