Neelix asks Tom for advice on dating and Tom tells him to be himself why does this scene exist

Voyager visits a planet of telepaths and a guy bumps into B’Elanna.

Tuvok chats with the lady in charge of security on the planet. Apparently they don’t have any more crime.

But then the guy that bumped into B’Elanna beats someone up!

They charge B’Elanna with having a violent thought, because having a violent thought makes these aliens uncontrollably attack people. That might’ve been worth mentioning to the people visiting before they beamed down, but what do I know.

The security lady doesn’t like to lock people up as punishment, instead they erase the violent thoughts from their minds. That ensures that the thoughts wont spread to anyone else. If punishments aren’t about justice on this planet, and rather just about maintaining peace, then why not just let her go back to Voyager and they could fly away forever?

Tuvok digs up some evidence that points to a history of violence with the guy. It might not have been B’Elanna’s thought that did it!

I kind of like that Paris comes up with a plan B if they can’t prove B’Elanna is innocent, to just push them all over because they’re pacifists and take B’Elanna back. It makes sense seeing as how B’Elanna seemingly is guilty of their dumb crime

An old woman murders Neelix’s lady friend. The violent thought is still being passed to people somehow.

Tuvok does a mind meld with B’Elanna for some research. He says it’s only a partial mind meld or something, and that he’s only looking at that specific memory. I guess it’s good that they sort of try and keep the mind meld special.

Tuvok questions someone who came in contact with B’Elanna during the incident because he gave B’Elanna the creeps.

Tuvok follows the guy and sees him meet up with another guy and then they look in a box and smile! Turns out there’s a black market for dark thoughts on this planet. That’s a pretty interesting idea!

Tuvok plays along as someone interested in an underground market for dark thoughts, ’cause Tuvok has some good ones.

But then Tuvok reveals his true intentions and lectures the back of this guy’s head.

When he tries to apprehend the guy, his buddies show up and they try to take Tuvok’s juiciest thoughts

But then Tuvok mind melds with this guy and somehow chokes him with his mind. That’s cool I guess, but it would have been even cooler if he choked him with his hands.

Tuvok arrests the guy and reveals what he’s discovered about the underground market to the security lady. They act like this proves their strict rules don’t really work, because people are still having negative thoughts, only in dark alleyways. Yeah…but there was almost no violence on the planet…so that’s a pretty minor problem in the grande scheme of things? Oh well, seeya later planet!
