Enterprise visits a planet that has a floating city in the sky.

They come across some trouble. These guys have cool glasses.

Kirk and Spock are rescued by some of the people that live in the sky city. The guards look… really…. cool.

Droxine: “I have never before met a Vulcan, sir.”
Spock: “Nor I a work of art, madam.”
It’s weird that Spock has a love interest, but it’s weirder that it seems like it’s mostly physical attraction that interests Spock.

A lady tries to kidnap Kirk as a hostage.

She is really one of the people that live in the mines on the surface. The sky people are all intellectuals and artists, while the people on the surface are dumb and violent, and just work in the mines. But they want to live in the sky city too!

They torture her by turning her a bunch of different colors.

Kirk and Spock don’t think that’s right!

Bones explains that the minerals that the miners are refining messes with their brains and that’s why they’re dumber and more violent.

So they get masks that will protect the miners.

Kirk shows the lady the mask, and explains how it will make her people less dumb.

When she takes Kirk to the mines she decides she’d rather kidnap him?

How quickly did they have to shoot this scene? Could they not stop for a minute to straighten his mask?

Kirk frees himself and starts shooting the walls to block them in.

He has the leader of the sky city beamed down so he can understand how the minerals affect a person’s brain

It doesn’t take long for them to get more violent and dumber.

At the end it’s implied that negotiations might start between the two groups but it still seems like they totally hate each other…
