[TNG] Season 3, Episode 18: Allegiance
Rating: 3
This episode stays intriguing and features Picard being awesome, making it an easy 3. The resolution is a little bland, but both plot lines are good examples of how Trek can execute a simple plot really well. It doesn’t hurt that Patrick Stewart can guide the viewer through this kind of episode better than most.

Notes:
Picard get’s abducted by a rectangle
He’s taken to a room with 2 other people that have been captured.
Meanwhile, back on the Enterprise, there’s a fake Picard walkin’ around!
There’s a Bolian with hair, she’s an ensign.
The duplicate Picard says that instead of continuing with their current mission, he wants them to fly to a quasar super slowly.
A fourth person is abducted. He’s mean.
Fake Picard asks Beverly to dinner…
They try to work together to get out but a green light stops them
The duplicate Picard is a total weirdo on the date. This is one of the rare scenes that addresses the relationship and tensions between Picard and Crusher.
They start accusing each other of secretly being one of the captors.
The duplicate Picard offers ales for everyone in 10-forward. Everyone seems really happy about it, even though there’s no money and everyone just replicates stuff anyway.
Then he leads everyone in song. It’s awkward.
I liked that when Picard figures out that the Bolian is one of the captors, (but previous to the actual reveal and explanation for the audience) he just stares her down.
Apparently this was all an experiment to study authority. That’s why the duplicate Picard sang a song, and asked Crusher on a date. I think these aliens just like to mess around.
