[TOS] Season 3, Episode 10: Plato’s Stepchildren
Rating: 2
There are concepts in this episode that I like but the details of the plot involve ridiculous stuff. It’s not an easy episode to watch and take seriously.

Notes:
There’s a voice coming from a tall shadow. I bet the person talking is so huge!
The people on this planet really like Plato
Bones has to help some kind of magic man that cut his leg. No one knew what to do and he got an infection
Platonians just sit around all day and see who can make the smuggest face
This lady has Spock guess her age. He guesses 35, but she’s actually 2300 years old. She still gets offended that he didn’t guess 30, when she stopped aging.
Alexander is the only one on the planet who doesn’t have magic powers. Kirk says where he’s from, people aren’t such jerks
Kirk shows the leader some attitude and they make Kirk slap himself
They want Bones to stay with them in case someone else get’s a cut. To persuade Bones, they humiliate Kirk and Spock until he agrees. First there is dancing
Then there are funny faces
They make Spock feel emotions, like the emotion of a tummy ache
Then this happened
They figure out the secret to the Platonians powers and give themselves a double dose. But it takes time to start working
They make Uhura and Chapel listen to Spock sing
Then there’s the first interracial kiss on TV! Well, on American TV anyway…and if you’re only counting kisses between fictional characters…and if you’re not counting Lucy and Ricky. But hey, it’s still something, right? I think it’s kind of lame that the actors didn’t really kiss
The leader was about to kill Alexander when Kirk’s magic powers kick in.
After so long of watching this guy humiliate everyone, it was really satisfying to have the tables turned on him.
Aww, but then Kirk is nice to him. After thousands of years of loving Plato, and modeling every aspect of his life after Plato’s ideas, he says some line about power making saints into savages, and he completely changes his mind about everything
Alexander gets to come back to Enterprise with them. So when Kirk left that lady crying on her planet in the last season, he probably just didn’t really like her
