[ENT] Season 3, Episode 8: Twilight
Rating: 3
A lot of people complain about this episode’s “reset button,” but that criticism isn’t precisely why I tend not to like these kinds of stories. The “reset button” at the end wasn’t the problem, it was the fact that you knew it had to happen from 2 minutes into the episode. But not every story has to involve mystery and suspense, and this one is more about laying out the stakes for the Xindi war, and revealing something about the characters. It can be a little depressing that while trying to show us how everything will go wrong without Archer, they implicitly make everyone else look a little incompetent by completely failing without him. The episode ends up being interesting enough to earn a 3 from us.

Notes:
In the teaser T’Pol is captain, and Archer isn’t wearing his clothes
And then the Xindi destroy earth. Dang, I was rooting for the humans
Now T’Pol looks a little different and Archer is oldish
She tells him about how he saved her from an anomaly and he ended up with parasites in his brain. The parasites make it so he can’t make new memories
T’Pol tells him about how they fought the Xindi, and things weren’t going so well
They now live in a small colony on Ceti Alpha V!
Archer reconnects with Enterprise who is keepin up the fight. Reed’s sporting a mirror-universe look
Phlox came up with a way to fix Archer but it requires a warp core
Phlox tries to get T’Pol to admit that she has feelings for Archer
They find an informant for the Xindi. They’re coming after Enterprise!
They figure out that when they remove the stuff from Archer’s brain, it disappears in the past too. When this information is revealed the episode should end about 2 minutes later, because now everyone knows where it’s going. But instead there’s about 10 minutes left…
Trip mentions that they got a shield upgrade from general Shran!
The Xindi attack and kill Trip, Hoshi, Reed, and everyone else on the bridge. Whatever
Phlox shoots a phaser! But then he dies. And so does T’Pol.
Then Enterprise is destroyed. Why not, right? Not like we’re buying that any of this will stick
Archer was able to destroy the parasites in his brain and everything goes back to normal
