[DS9] Season 3, Episode 5: Second Skin
Rating: 2
This episode showcases different aspects of Cardassia, with their increased measures to fight the Maquis, the way that the Obsidian Order works, and the increasing dissident movement. It’s not my favorite type of mystery, and some of it seems pretty far-fetched.

Notes:

Kira gets a transmission from someone asking about her time in a prison, but Kira doesn’t remember being in that prison

A guy explains to her that she’s really a Cardassian agent for the Obsidian Order. She’s been made to look like a Bajoran to learn information.

They also show her a transmission she recorded before she was surgically changed into Kira. It doesn’t really make that much sense that the Cardassians would change her memory to make her think she’s a Bajoran, have her learn things, and then try to bring back her Cardassian memories

They’re going to torture Kira to get the information from her and her “father” tries to get her out of there. Turns out he’s a dissident and this whole plan capitalized on the coincidence that this guy’s daughter looks exactly like Kira, and that she was surgically altered do recon as a Bajoran. What are the odds?! The whole plan was to expose this guy as a dissident. But why would this expose him as a dissident? What if he was just a father that didn’t want his daughter tortured?

But then they’re rescued. The Obsidian Order guy recognizes Garak. He wonders why Garak is helping them and says this will ruin his chances of returning to Cardassia. I wonder why Garak is helping them also. He doesn’t seem to really like Kira, and in a later episode we’ll see how far Garak is willing to go in order to return to the Obsidian Order.
