Notes:
Troi has a different outfit. It’s teal. Crusher has a seat on the bridge? Was that there before?
They check up on a colony, but everyone was killed except for two people
Troi senses that the people are different in some way. Thanks Troi
They go visit the couple
They’re just some old people
A big warship shows up, but it just runs away
Troi goes insane
Worf drinks tea
Picard wants to figure out what was different about these two that they were spared in the attack that killed everyone else. The guy says he didn’t resist, and that he won’t kill anyone ever
The warship comes back and it’s a lot more powerful. This time Enterprise runs away
They go back and talk to the old people again. They won’t go with them, and aren’t afraid of dying. Picard says he’s not leaving as long as they’re alive
The warship comes back a third time and this time they blow up the house and the two old people
A little bit later their house reappears and they both are back alive. Picard beams them up for answers. This guy is some kind of super old, super powerful being. His wife was killed in the attack, and he made a duplicate to live with. He’s been messing with Enterprise to get them to leave him alone
It turns out he was making Troi crazy because she would’ve figured him out. I think he’s giving her a lot of credit.
He says that he could’ve prevented the attack but he’s against killing. He wouldn’t kill anyone ever…well, except when he got really mad because his wife was murdered and then he killed 50 billion people, the entire race of the attackers
“We leave behind a being of extraordinary power… and conscience. I am not certain if he should be praised or condemned. Only that he should be left alone.”
ehh, he should be condemned. What on earth would he be praised for? Feeling guilty for committing genocide?
It turns out most of the mystery in this episode is because the old man made such weird decisions. If he wanted to be left alone by Enterprise why didn’t he just turn into a cactus or something and play it cool until they left? Why the elaborate cover story? Why the inconsistent trickery with warship? Why the snare in the front yard to make Riker flip upside-down? I’m pretty sure with his capabilities he could’ve figured out some way to stop the alien attack without killing them. Whatever, I’m going to stop thinking about this.
