[TOS] Season 3, Episode 3: The Paradise Syndrome
Rating: 1
I though the general mission of Enterprise was interesting, as well as the ancient super aliens that are mentioned in this episode, but these things aren’t a prominent part of the story, and it’s mostly really bad.

Notes:
Bones, Spock and Kirk beam to a planet and marvel at how similar it is to earth. Haven’t they realized yet that most of the planets they visit are remarkably similar to earth?
They find an obelisk
Spock explains that they only have 30 minutes to look around before they need to go deflect the asteroid heading towards this planet. Wait, why are they wasting any time looking around here in the first place?
They find some Native Americans. uhh, alright
Kirk goes back to check out the obelisk and falls into a secret chamber!
Then he accidentally hits the “erase all memory” button
Spock explains that they need to deflect the asteroid before it gets too close. First he explains it in a perfectly understandable way, and then again the same way but while holding rocks. Bones finally understands and they take off
People think Kirk is a god
Everyone believes he’s a god except the medicine chief who has a really cool headband
But then Kirk does his magic cpr on a dying boy, and that settles things
I guess the title of god wasn’t enough, so they also make him the new medicine chief
Enterprise tries to shoot the asteroid but it doesn’t really work. They try so hard that everything on the ship breaks. Defeated by a rock
The tribal priestess always marries the medicine chief. The old medicine chief isn’t happy about this
Enterprise has to go back to the planet without warp. It will take them a few months, and they’ll only arrive there a few hours before the asteroid
Kirk’s happy
Spock figures out (somehow) that the obelisk was created by an ancient super race called the preservers. They protected primitive planets and spread humanoids all over the galaxy
Some kind of prophecies said Kirk would save everyone when there were strong winds, but he doesn’t know what he’s doing
Kirk’s wife joins him to be stoned. Spock and Bones show up
Spock does a Vulcan mind fusion with Kirk
They figure out that the obelisk is operated by sound, specifically saying “Kirk to Enterprise”. Those ancient aliens had bizarrely specific foreknowledge of what needed to happen. Well, they did except the one that decided to put in a memory-wipe button on the control panel. That made things a little difficult
Kirk can’t leave his wife alone to bring up their child, so I guess the writer needed to kill her off.
…So does everyone on the planet still believe Kirk is a god?
