[VOY] Season 2, Episode 25 (Netflix: S2 E25): Resolutions
Rating: 2
I found parts of Janeway and Chakotay’s dilemma interesting in this episode but it becomes about a more intimate relationship between the two of them, which I didn’t really like, and it never comes up again anyway. I found Paris, Kim, and B’Elanna to be a little obnoxious in this episode. I found myself frustrated with the dilemma the crew faces. In a TV show, going on a suicide mission to save your friends seems like a really great idea because we all know it will work out. In this episode they make Tuvok look like a jerk because he treats the situation like it isn’t a TV show.

Notes:
Janeway and Chakotay got a disease and can only survive while on a certain planet. Tuvok is put in command!
The vidiians might have a cure for the disease, but contacting them is too dangerous and Janeway orders them not too. Tuvok carries out these orders and Paris gets mad at Tuvok for apparently not feeling as rotten as everyone else
“I’ve always looked better in beige” I think that might be the ultimate Janeway quote.
I don’t like how they portrayed the crew dealing with the situation at first. They mostly just get mad at each other
Before Voyager leaves communication range, Janeway gives a farewell message to the crew. I guess Chakotay doesn’t get to say goodbye. She could’ve at least added at the end that “Chakotay says bye too”
Janeway finds a monkey and every time she talks to it she puts on a creepy voice and sticks out her hand to lure it in
I like the dilemma Janeway and Chakotay face: to give up trying to find a cure and start living their lives, or keep trying to find a cure when it could be for nothing
Kim argues with Tuvok on the bridge because Tuvok avoids the vidiians. He even tries to summon everyone else on the bridge to join his side in arguing against Tuvok. Tuvok relieves him of duty for the day
People start thinking of a plan to contact the vidiians
Kim goes to Tuvok and presents their “plan”. Kim says they can win favor with the vidiians by bringing up the fact that The Doctor has a vidiian friend, and they can offer the vidiians some of B’Elanna’s DNA cause they’re in to that sort of thing. Tuvok says, yeah, but Voyager also killed about 300 of their people. They probably won’t be happy about that.
The monkey warns Janeway about a storm. The storm destroys all of Janeway’s research for a cure
Kes talks with Tuvok in a way that’s not completely rude, and Tuvok is convinced to try talking with the vidiians. What Tuvok should have said in this speech was: “Even though this decision makes no sense, I’m sure the writers will bail us out and we’ll end up with the cure”
The vidiians seem nice and they get Voyager in touch with The Doctor’s lady friend. The vidiians agree to give them the cure, but Tuvok wants to run a bunch of drills just in case
Janeway and Chakotay are gross together, or with anyone else for that matter
The vidiians attack! you know, like they always do
For some reason the vidiians still brought the Doctor’s friend and the cure, even though they were not going through with the exchange. And they also aren’t monitoring their own communications. What luck!
This is an interesting episode for Tuvok. I found it unsettling how no one except Kes seemed to respect him. He was smart to not want to communicate with the vidiians, and when he is proven correct, it’s his plan that gets them out of the situation. Yet I still get the impression that we’re meant to believe Tuvok was the one in the wrong the whole episode.
Janeway and Chakotay seemed so happy on that planet, but they’re brought back to Voyager and Tuvok steps down from command. Not every story has a happy ending.
