[TOS] Season 2, Episode 17 (Netflix: S2 E17): A Piece of the Action
Rating: 2
This episode can be mildly funny, but it’s really repetitive and feels drawn out. It probably could’ve been a half hour episode. Or better yet, it could’ve been a story idea the writers laughed about for a few minutes really late at night and then abandoned. Okay, maybe that’s a little harsh. I guess it can be amusing if you’re in the right kind of mood.

Notes:
Kirk, Bones, and Spock beam to a planet to investigate if it has been contaminated by a Federation ship 100 years ago. Looks like it.
They get captured by the main boss on the planet. I don’t think he understands how to play pool
They find the source of the contamination
I love how this guy takes off his glasses every time someone makes a comment he finds perplexing. He rips them off 3 times in about 3 minutes
Kirk goes through this whole charade of teaching these guys a new card game just to distract them by dropping a card and punching them
Spock knocks out a lady that’s just trying to listen to her radio
Kirk gets captured by a different boss, who hates the first boss. He wants to throw stuff at his head and down his sleeve
Everyone wants more weapons from Enterprise
Kirk escapes from him too
Kirk starts talking in the same slang and starts to really get into acting like people on this planet. Not to blend in, they already know where he’s from. Just cause.
Spock knocks out more people
Kirk just screws around most of this episode. He knows none of these people actually pose a threat
My favorite part of the episode is when Kirk shakes a guy in a fight
Kirk decides to tell all the gangsters some story about how they have to work together or the federation comes after them. He puts that boss that is known to be a liar and generally a bad guy in charge of the whole planet. That’ll probably work out fine
