[TOS] Season 2, Episode 16 (Netflix: S2 E16): The Gamesters of Triskelion
Rating: 3
Kirk seduces an alien and teaches her what love and freedom mean, but leaves her looking up at the stars crying at the end of the episode. Kirk makes a huge gamble and we see him putting some super advanced aliens in their place. There’s gladiator type fights to the death. Bones and Spock argue about logic versus compassion. There’s cheesy fights, sets, and costumes. This may not be the best episode, but it’s classic for TOS.

Notes:

Kirk, Chekov and Uhura are magically brought to some planet. The planet is probably called Triskelion

A bald man with a sparkly collar shows up and tells them they will be trained to become like gladiators to amuse “the providers”

We hear Uhura scream and Kirk looks like he’s gonna kill someone. It’s immediately followed by a scene that’s supposed to be funny. We see the guy leave Uhura’s cell and he says she’s not allowed to resist. I’m guessing nothing actually happened to Uhura…right?

Shahna says she doesn’t understand what “beautiful” means. Kirk gives her a mirror. Kirk, she doesn’t understand that you’re hitting on her, she just thinks “beautiful” is the thing you just handed her. Those are also some cool tin foil gloves

Uhura is told to beat up a guy that’s tied up. Uhura refuses, and as punishment she has to take his place. But then Kirk steps in and takes Uhura’s place. Will someone please just get tied up and beaten already

Kirk teaches Shahna all about humans. Naturally she doesn’t know what love is, and Kirk has to show her. Kirk: “It’s the custom of my people to help one another when they’re in trouble”

Kirk kisses Shahna and then does some kind of mini punch, which of course instantly knocks her out, which allows for Kirk’s escape. Brilliant

Kirk finally meets “the providers.” He provokes them into wagering for everyone’s freedom if he wins a fight. If he loses the whole crew of the Enterprise will become slaves!

In classic Star Trek form, Kirk chews them out for lacking the awesome qualities humans have, like compassion, curiosity and a love of freedom. Go humans!

Kirk has to fight 3 guys at once! They say it’s against the rules for Kirk to step on the “blue” areas. If by “blue” they mean “green,” then Kirk loses about 20 times
