[VOY] Season 2, Episode 15 (Netflix: S2 E15): Threshold
Rating: 1
A lot of people are really hard on this episode just because it’s really stupid. Some even talk about it like it’s the worst Star Trek ever made. I think it has a few things going for it. For example, there are so many things wrong about it, that it’s almost like a game for people to find them all. Also, the Doctor has a few funny parts. The concept of infinite velocity is also something that could be interesting, although it isn’t dealt with in a good way. All of these things aren’t enough to pull it past a 1 rating. I mean, come on. Perhaps the worst part about this episode is it sets the precedent in Star Trek that if people go warp ten, they turn into salamanders.

Notes:
They’ve been doing simulated flights for trying to break the warp ten barrier. They needed to take a break because it’s really hard
Kim: “If Voyager achieved warp ten, we could be home in as long as it takes to push a button.”
SPOILER: They won’t reach home in as long as it takes to push a button in this episode
Paris: “What if the nacelles aren’t being torn from the ship; what if the ship is being torn from the nacelles?”
I hope this episode starts making more sense. Is this the brilliant insight that no one has ever been able to figure out?
Paris breaks the warp ten barrier! They try to make a big deal out of it, but it’s mainly just Paris making this face
Paris starts to mutate. He starts breathing a different type of air and grows another heart. It seems like a lot of this episode is just Paris with his mouth open
They think Paris is on the verge of death. He starts talking about how he imagines lots of pretty girls at his funeral, he yells about how he wants a pizza, and he wants Kes to kiss him. Not exactly a dignified way of going out. I seriously can’t tell if it’s supposed to be funny or sad
Jonas is still being sneaky
Paris says he’s glad he’s mutating. Right, Paris
He coughs out his tongue. Cool!
As if Paris whining about nonsense wasn’t bad enough, now he talks in a goofy voice because he has no tongue.
Paris escapes and steals Janeway and then goes to warp ten, to infinite velocity
The Doctor claims he figured out what’s going on. He says going infinite velocity made Paris evolve super fast. I don’t know a lot about things, but isn’t evolution mutation through reproduction? And isn’t it based on the environment? They act like a life form has a set path of evolution and Paris just did it all at once
Luckily, they find Janeway and Paris three days later. Since the two of them were in infinite velocity they could’ve been anywhere in the entire universe, right?
AND they have babies. We find out the ultimate stage of evolution for humans is these big unintelligent salamanders who apparently inadvertently have children together…unless Janeway and Paris have secretly liked each other all along…
In the next shot, Janeway and Paris are completely back to being normal humans. Good job, Doctor
