Brannon Braga said about this episode that “We’re not here to provide answers to questions. We’re here to provoke thought about an issue.” He seems to be aware that this is a line writers say, but not familiar about how to actually do that in a story. It should be watched to keep track of the arc they have going with T’Pol and the Vulcans, but it isn’t anything special.

Because of this they don't really research the disease that it may cause very much, and don't treat people who have it. Remember, the writers aren't trying to tell us these guys are wrong, they're just asking questions
