[TOS] Season 2, Episode 1 (Netflix: S2 E1): Amok Time
Rating: 4–
They introduce the concept of Pon Farr, which isn’t exactly our favorite part of Vulcans, although it’s best portrayed in this episode. They also establish that Vulcans are both logical, but also sort of religious, which is an interesting part of Vulcans. This episode showcases the deep friendship between Kirk, Spock and Bones.

Notes:
Spock doesn’t like Chapel’s soup
Spock wants to go to Vulcan! “You can divert to Vulcan with a loss of but 2.8 light days.” Is that how you’re supposed to use “light days”?
Chekov!
Spock orders Chekov to divert to Vulcan without Kirk’s permission
But it turns out Spock will die if he doesn’t make it to Vulcan soon! Could’ve mentioned that earlier, Spock
I like how Spock is embarrassed about the whole Pon Farr thing
Spock doesn’t want to hear any messages!!
Kirk disobeys orders of going to Altair VI in order to save Spock’s life
Poor Chapel. Spock: “Your face is wet”
T’Pring! The person Spock was arranged to marry!
It’s Spock’s right to be accompanied by his best friend, and also Bones
T’Pau! “The only person to turn down a seat at the federation council”
T’Pring chooses to make Spock fight for her
T’Pring picks Kirk as her champion to fight Spock
Kirk is allowed to decline but another champion would be chosen. Kirk doesn’t think Spock can take the other guy in his condition so Kirk says he’ll fight. His plan is to just quit if it looks rough so Spock will win. Good plan Kirk. That’ll totally work out
T’Pau: “Oh, did I mention this was a fight to the death?”
File under: To the Death!
Kirk’s shirt gets torn in the silliest possible place
Kirk isn’t used to this Vulcan air. Bones says he can give him a shot so he has a fighting chance
The Vulcans really like their bells
Spock kills Kirk!?
T’Pring wanted some other guy because he wasn’t as famous as Spock, and she didn’t want to deal with all the fame or something. Pitting Spock against his best friend was the most logical way of ensuring she ends up with the other guy…I guess. She’s a jerk!
Spock tells the other guy he can have her. Spock: “You’ll find ‘wanting’ isn’t the same thing as ‘having,'” sucker.
It turned out the shot Bones gave Kirk was to make it seem like he was dead!
