Face of the Enemy is a pretty fun Romulan episode, and even more amazingly… Troi gets a real story to be the lead of, and there’s no romance or psychic assault?? It woulda been cooler if she used her abilities a lot more to excel in the situation, ’cause it seems like the kind of thing she would be well suited for. Oh well Troi, this was the only chance the writers gave you!
Sometimes when you go to those neuropsychology seminars on Bokara VI things get crazy and you wake up a Romulan.A guy called N’Vek walks in and Troi demands explanations! He says that usually happens later in the episode, so for now there’s “no time.” (paraphrasing)But the Romulan captain doesn’t seem to like Troi Meanwhile on Enterprise, a human that wanted to be a Romulan decides he wants to come back. He REALLY wanted to fit in. Riker gives him a good pointing to, and tells him to change out of that dorky Romulan outfit and into a dorky Federation outfit.He says he was sent by Spock and is part of his cool underground movement.N’Vek shows Troi their secret cargo. It’s some guys taking a nap. They need to get them to safety. We learn about some of Romulan society’s inner workings, regarding the military vs the Tal Shiar.N’Vek blows up a cargo ship!Back on Enterprise, they’re wondering wasn’t there a lady that used to hang out on the bridge??Enterprise comes looking for that cargo shipTroi takes command!She makes contact with Enterprise… …which confuses them a bit.Their plot is uncovered!But Troi and the napping guys make it out. Sorry N’Vek
