[DS9] Season 4, Episode 7: Starship DownRating: 3
This episode has a really suspenseful and well executed first half, but after the initial encounter with the Jem’Hadar it settles into some pretty familiar stuff. Trek, at this point, returned to the really lazy “trap two characters together” form of character work many times. There are some character subjects that are deserving of attention that are discussed in ‘Starship Down’ I just wish they had done so in a more natural way.

Notes:
Sisko takes the Defiant out to the Delta Quadrant to do some business.
The Jem’Hadar attack and they go into a gas giant, even though it’s a class-J!!
The ship gets worse and worse. Bashir ends up being stuck with Dax.
Quark and the alien business man get stuck together.
Engineering loses contact with the rest of the ship, and they think the bridge crew might all be dead.
Sisko gets a concussion and Kira has to make sure he stays awake. It’s annoying.
These aliens believe in the fallacy that commodities have an objective value.
Worf shows up in engineering. The story arc here is to show how engineers don’t respond well to strict oversight like on the bridge…
Kira let’s some things off of her chest about being uncomfortable working with someone she thinks is a super important religious figure. She also tells a neat story about Bajoran farmers
Bashir and Dax talk about how Bashir used to be not very well written at the beginning of the series, and would always chase after Dax.
Quark teaches this alien the thrill of risk and reward when they have to disarm a torpedo.
Because all the character conflicts are resolved and everyone has learned the important lessons that needed learnin’, the Defiant is working again!
(Kira wears a hat)
