[DS9] Season 4, Episode 1: The Way of the WarriorRating: 4
It could’ve been an iffy proposition to bring a Next Generation character into the Deep Space Nine fold, but Worf joining the crew fits with the story in a sensible way, and the DS9 writers have an immediately interesting grasp of Worf’s character. On top of that, this episode tracks a dissolution of the Klingon-Federation alliance, which is the fallout of a total upheaval in the Cardassian government. Pretty much the only thing keeping this from a 5 is that the plot gets stretched to fill double the run time. Even though a lot of the character-driven subplots are well done, it makes for an oddly languid pace considering the epic scale and dire consequences of the main plot.

Notes:
DS9 is preparing to deal with the Dominion
Kasidy touches Sisko’s head
A lot of Klingons show up and hang out on the station
Some of them start causing trouble. They attack Garak!
Sisko has to go help Kasidy, who is being searched by the Klingons
Kurzon once told Sisko that the only people who can really deal with the Klingons are other Klingons…
Which means WORF!!!!
Worf beats up the trouble-maker Klingon. It’s cool.
It was a way of getting to Martok, but Martok won’t say what the Klingons are up to. Worf continues to be cool.
But Worf’s dad saved this guy’s house, so he tells Worf what’s going on. Also, they do a headbutt. It’s cool, guys!
The Klingons plan on attacking the Cardassians. The Klingons think changelings are behind the recent change of government on Cardassia. Sisko tries to talk to Martok, but Martok orders for the Klingons to move out to begin the attack.
Sisko isn’t supposed to betray the Klingons, since they’re still allies, so he just lets Garak take his measurements while they talk about it.
Cardassia starts to struggle, and the Klingons break the alliance with the Federation!
Gowron wants Worf to join the Klingons.
Gowron: “If you turn your back on me now, for as long as I live, you will not be welcome anywhere in the Klingon Empire. Your family will be removed from the High Council, your lands seized, and your House stripped of its titles. You will have nothing!”
Worf: “Except my honor.”
Sisko decides he needs to get the leaders of Cardasia out of harms way.
Fight!
They save the Cardassian leaders but some Klingons are following them back to DS9.
A lot of Klingons arrive at DS9. They want the Cardassian leaders, even though Sisko has verified that they aren’t changelings. They threaten to fight each other, but come on. We’ve seen this before. Sisko will just talk some sense into them.
Sisko just says they’re ready for the fight, and that they’ve been preparing the station for Dominion attack for the last year. The Klingons start attacking!
They take out a lot of Klingons.
They board the station!
When the Starfleet reinforcements get into sensor range, Gowron reconsiders. Sisko tells him that fighting each other is exactly what the Dominion wants. Gowron pulls out.
