[TOS] Season 2, Episode 26 (Netflix: S2 E26): Assignment: Earth
Rating: 3
This episode isn’t really about Enterprise, it’s about a guy named Gary Seven and his cat. Enterprise just gets in the way. I thought this episode was really strange until I read that it was meant as to serve as a pilot for a Gary Seven TV show. Well, it’s still a strange thing to do in an established TV series, but it will help you make sense of the plot and way they introduce characters. It’s a fun episode and has a grand scale which makes it feel epic.

Notes:
Enterprise goes back in time to 1968 to watch stuff and they intercept someone beaming to earth from a distant planet. They think he might be an alien from the future invading earth.
The sound his cat makes was obviously made by a person trying to sound like a cat
The cat attacks a security guard
Gary Seven escapes Enterprise and goes to talk to his computer. For security reasons the computer asks Gary to explain who he is and his mission to the audience
Kirk and Spock go after him
A lady wearing pink and orange walks in on Gary and for some reason Gary thinks she’s also an agent like him, and he gives away a lot of secret information. Gary’s not a hard person to get information from
When Kirk and Spock find the room Spock wants to keep the lady quiet as long as possible before running away. She seems to be helping him out.
Enterprise beams up some police by accident and they just beam them back down
Gary Seven has a pen that can open compartments, turned off the force field when he was in the Enterprise jail, and when it’s used on people they make a funny face and then go to sleep or something. Pretty much whenever Gary needs to do something you can guess how he’s going to do it: use the magic pen
Gary was trying to manipulate a rocket launch in order to stop the weapons race and nuclear war tensions. Kirk and Spock want to stop him because for whatever reason Gary didn’t want to tell them what he was doing. The lady in pink and orange is also trying to stop Gary, except when she’s trying to stop Kirk and Spock. Also, somewhere along the lines Spock wanted to change hats
They need to destroy the missile using Gary’s computer but they don’t know if they can trust him. They think he might lock the controls. Spock says something along the lines of “without facts we can’t use logic, we have to rely on human intuition”. With facts you don’t need to use logic, you know what to do. It’s when you don’t have all the facts that logic is the most useful.
The cat turns into a lady for a minute
