[ENT] Season 1, Episode 4 (Netflix: S1 E3): Strange New World

Enterprise does a great job of maintaining the sense that the crew is eager to explore and find new worlds in the first season, and finding a new planet fits in with the early episode themes. Of course, once they find a planet, something interesting has to happen. In Star Trek there are typically two roads they’ll take in a situation like this: have a real sciencey episode, or have a character-based episode. Strange New World seemingly took the latter approach, except this is also an episode where the crew acts crazy, and out of character. So aside from Archer, we really don’t get to know the characters at all. We just watch the actors yell at each other.

Cool hats, dorks.

This episode introduces us to crewman Cutler. I wish she could have been in more episodes. In general I wish Enterprise would have put more effort into consistent reoccurring minor characters since it’s such a small ship. But they really didn’t do a very good job with that at all.
